Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has been honored with the People’s Choice Governors Excellence Award in Paris, France, in recognition of his transformational leadership and commitment to good governance.
The award was conferred under the category of transformational leadership and good governance in Africa, celebrating Governor Mohammed’s visionary policies, inclusive development agenda, and unwavering dedication to improving the lives of Bauchi citizens.
According to a statement issued by his media aide, Mukhtar Gidado, the award recognized leaders who deliver tangible results that uplift communities and inspire confidence in governance.
Represented at the ceremony by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Aminu Hassan Gamawa, Governor Mohammed described the honor as "A call to do even more for the people of Bauchi State, to consolidate the gains we have made, and to sustain the values of service, accountability, and transformational leadership."
He expressed appreciation to the organizers for their objectivity and commitment to spotlighting leaders whose performance motivates positive change across the continent.
The Paris ceremony attracted leaders, policy experts, and development advocates, with 10 African governors, including those from Kenya, Egypt, Morocco, Ethiopia, and Nigeria, recognized for excellence in governance.
The People’s Choice Governors Excellence Award is organized by an independent Secretariat and Selection Committee made up of African development advocates, academics, and governance experts. Honorees are chosen strictly on merit, impact, and measurable outcomes, guided by principles of fairness and pro-African values.
Gidado revealed that Governor Bala Mohammed's recognition was anchored on his achievements in key sectors, including infrastructure renewal, transformative investments in roads, housing, and urban regeneration projects, education and health sector reforms that include expansion and renovation of schools and healthcare facilities across all 20 Local Government Areas of Bauchi State.
Other areas of achievement include agricultural and economic transformation, empowerment of farmers, youth, and women through modern agricultural practices, irrigation schemes, and entrepreneurship programs, as well as peace and inclusion policies that promote unity, interfaith dialogue, and community engagement.
In his goodwill message, Governor Mohammed congratulated fellow awardees, describing them as "partners in building a new story of Africa where leadership is not about titles, but about impact, innovation, and legacy."
He also extended an open invitation to the international community to participate in the forthcoming Bauchi State Investment Summit, where opportunities in agriculture, infrastructure, mining, technology, and tourism will be showcased.
Mukhtar Gidado also said the latest honor in Paris adds to Governor Bala Mohammed’s growing list of national and international recognitions, further cementing his place among Africa’s most respected leaders and reaffirming Bauchi’s status as a beacon of good governance.
