Kebbi Governor Receives Honorary Doctorate from Prestigious Indian University

Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State - The Governor of Kebbi State, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, has been conferred with a Doctor of Philosophy (Honoris Causa) degree by the prestigious G D Goenka University in India. The special convocation ceremony was held on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at the university campus.

The citation presented at the event highlighted Governor Idris's outstanding contributions to education, leadership, and social development. According to the citation, the Governor's dedication to public service, transformational leadership in Kebbi State, and his enduring legacy as a reformer in the education and labor sectors of Nigeria were acknowledged.
Governor Idris expressed deep appreciation to G D Goenka University for the honor, saying, "I express deep appreciation to G D Goenka University for the honor, reaffirming my commitment to the service of Kebbi people and humanity with renewed zeal and purpose."

The Governor's background in education and social development is notable. Prior to his governorship, Idris had a distinguished career as a teacher and union leader, serving as Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Kebbi State and later as National Treasurer.
In a related development, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, Hon. Shafiu Zauro, revealed that 96 graduates from Kalinga University and G D Goenka University, all indigenes of Kebbi State, have been granted automatic employment by the State Government. According to Hon. Zauro, "In addition, the government has paid for their flight tickets back to Nigeria as well as provided them with financial assistance."
The Governor's entourage included prominent government officials, such as Hon. Bello Dallatun Kaoje, Hon. Faruq Nasarawa Jega, Hon. Abubakar Muhammad BK, Hon. Bala Muhammad Gagga, Hon. Ibrahim Muhammad Sakaba, and Hon. Shafiu Abubakar Zauro, among others.

The honorary degree represents a global acknowledgment of Governor Idris's impact beyond Nigeria, as a symbol of progressive governance, unity, and hope.
