Nigeria's former President Muhammadu Buhari has died at the age of 82, according to his spokesperson, Garba Shehu. Buhari passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in a London clinic where he had been receiving medical treatment.

"The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London," Garba Shehu confirmed in a statement. "May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus. Amin".

Buhari served as Nigeria's civilian president from 2015 to 2023, after previously leading the country as a military head of state between 1983 and 1985. During his tenure, he was known for his stance on anti-corruption and efforts to stabilize the economy.

The former president's death has sparked an outpouring of tributes, with many Nigerians reflecting on his legacy. Further details regarding burial arrangements are expected to be released by the family in accordance with Islamic rites.

As the nation mourns the loss of its former leader, Buhari's family has requested prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul. "INNA LILLAHI WA INNA ILAIHIRRAJIUUN," his family announced, seeking divine acceptance of his soul.
