"Kebbi State Holds GBV Sensitization Workshop for Students"

Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State - The Office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Junaidu Bello Mashal, in collaboration with the Gender-Based Violence Unit, has held a two-day sensitization workshop on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) for secondary school students.

The workshop, which held at Azbir Hotel in Birnin Kebbi, aimed to educate students on the dangers of GBV and its effects. Students from Government Girls and Boys Day Secondary School Badariya, Government Girls and Boys Day Secondary School Gwadangaji, and Army Day Girls and Boys Secondary School participated in the workshop.

The Head of the Gender-Based Violence Unit, Barrister Zainab Muhammad Jabbo, delivered introductory remarks, while Mrs. Catherine Obieda made a presentation on GBV counseling and remedies. The CEO and Founder of Zaki's Gem Foundation, Ambassador Dr. Nafisa Zaki, sensitized the students on what constitutes GBV and the role of adolescent girls and boys in ending GBV in the state.

Other speakers included Sheikh Ismail Chindo Gotomo, who spoke from an Islamic perspective, and the State Commander of NAPTIP, Misbahu Iya Kaura, who quoted verses from the Quran on the issue of committing rape or GBV. The Secretary of the Technical Working Group on GBV, Malam Nasir Idris, also made a presentation on sensitization talk on GBV and reporting mechanism.

The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Barrister Garba Lawal Hudu, rounded up the session with his closing remarks, thanking and appreciating the students for their participation. "We appreciate every student who participated in this workshop to be sensitized on the effects and consequences of committing rape or involving GBV cases," he said.
