The National Orientation Agency (NOA), Kebbi State Directorate, today commemorated Democracy Day 2025 with a special community outreach program in Gawasu Community, Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area. The event was aimed at fostering grassroots engagement and deepening democratic understanding among the people.
Mallam Muhammed Nasir Karofi, the State Director of NOA Kebbi State, led the delegation to the remote community. According to him, the strategic decision to move away from the city capital for this year's commemoration was to facilitate direct dialogue with diverse stakeholders. "Our community outreach strategy is designed to afford a unique opportunity for robust dialogue with key stakeholders, including vibrant youth, dedicated women's groups, and vital community-based organizations," stated Director Karofi.
The outreach program featured a comprehensive presentation highlighting the achievements of the democratic government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the federal level, and Dr. Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu, the Executive Governor of Kebbi State, at the state level. These presentations underscored the tangible dividends of democracy witnessed across various sectors.
A key component of the outreach was an interactive dialogue session, providing a platform for the Gawasu community to offer valuable feedback to all levels of government regarding their expectations and aspirations. The NOA delegation also embarked on a tour of newly constructed projects within the community, serving as concrete examples of the benefits of democratic governance. These projects included vital infrastructure such as roads, a hospital, schools, and boreholes, directly addressing critical community needs.
Director Karofi also announced the ongoing National Debate Competition among tertiary institutions across the nation, organized by the National Headquarters of the Agency. He strongly urged young students from tertiary institutions in Kebbi State to actively participate in this intellectual exercise, encouraging them to strive for the top state position.
In his remarks, Director Karofi appealed to the people of Kebbi State to actively engage in the democratic process, particularly in governance. He stressed that "governance is a serious business that is too important to ignore or to be left to a few." He further debunked the erroneous notion that politics is a dirty game, urging citizens to challenge this perception and actively contribute to shaping their collective future.
Director Karofi reiterated Kebbi NOA's unwavering commitment to discharging its functions diligently for the continued good of the state and the nation.
