The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Security and Intelligence, Senator Shehu Buba Umar, has reiterated that there is no politics in the fight against insecurity. Senator Buba made this assurance during a condolence visit to Governor Bala Mohammed at the Government House in Bauchi on Thursday, following the brutal killing of 13 hunters and 10 civilians by bandits in Garin Mansur village, Alkaleri Local Government Area recently.
Senator Buba, who represents Bauchi South Senatorial District, led a delegation of top security officials on the visit, emphasizing the need for unity and collaboration in addressing security threats. "There is no politics in the fight against insecurity," Buba stated. "That is why you see me here today, bringing a delegation to console the Governor and discuss ways to address security challenges."
The senator added that despite their party affiliations, with him belonging to the APC and the Governor belonging to the PDP, their differences do not matter when it comes to the safety of the people. Despite their recent political disagreements and public exchanges, Senator Buba and Governor Mohammed put aside their differences in the interest of peace and security.
Senator Buba stressed that criminal elements must not be allowed to succeed and called for timely information sharing between communities and security agencies to prevent future attacks. He pledged to work closely with the Bauchi State Government, security forces, youth, and community leaders to find lasting solutions.
Governor Bala Mohammed, in his remarks, acknowledged the importance of cooperation in fighting insecurity. "This is a commiseration visit," the governor said. "As a senator representing Bauchi South, and as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Security and Intelligence, he has come with high-level security personnel to support us."
The governor added that with the federal government's support, the security agencies are aware of security challenges and are ready to collaborate with local communities, the state government, and all stakeholders to address the challenges. Governor Mohammed called for strengthened security measures to better protect lives and property across the state.
The tragic incident that prompted the visit occurred on May 4, 2025, when a joint patrol of local hunters from Duguri and Gwana Districts was ambushed by armed bandits along the Duguri–Mansur–Dajin Mada forest corridor near the Bauchi–Plateau border.
