As the world celebrates International Labour Day, leaders in Bauchi State have emphasized the importance of synergy and collaborative efforts between labour and other relevant stakeholders to achieve desired goals. The Bauchi State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Suleiman, and the Executive Chairman of Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Adamu Mohammed Duguri, made the call in separate statements.
In a goodwill message marking the International Labour Day, Speaker Suleiman highlighted the significance of workers' contributions to the state's development. "The importance of labour to the workforce can never be ignored as they serve like an engine to the device, they practicalize what experts have written and build infrastructures that stand for generations to come," his spokesperson, Mukhtar Garba Kobi, said in a statement.
The Speaker noted that the Bauchi State Government, under Governor Bala Mohammed, has made significant impacts on workers' welfare, including the approval of the minimum wage and consistent payment of salaries. He also mentioned the renovation of the State Secretariat and 20 Local Government Council secretariats, which have improved working conditions for civil servants.
Suleiman expressed the Bauchi State House of Assembly's readiness to collaborate with workers and pass bills that would improve their lives. "We urge authorities to disburse remuneration on time, promote deserving workers, and process retirement benefits promptly," Kobi said. He also called on workers to be punctual, dedicated, and responsible in their places of work.
Similarly, SUBEB Chairman Duguri used the occasion to appreciate the tireless efforts of workers in the basic education sector. "We proudly acknowledge the outstanding work of the 20 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) and their supportive staff," he said. "Your commitment at the grassroots level has been instrumental in implementing educational policies and delivering services directly to our communities."
Duguri commended Governor Mohammed for his visionary leadership and consistent support for basic education, which has brought about meaningful transformation across the state. "We wholeheartedly believe in your mission and applaud the positive changes your administration has brought to our education system," he said.
Both leaders emphasized the importance of collaboration and unity in achieving progress and development in Bauchi State.
