The Federal College of Education (FCE), Gidan Madi, in Sokoto State, has matriculated 434 students during its 3rd matriculation ceremony. The Provost of the college, Prof. Faruq Umar-Zaki, stated that the college admitted its first set of students in January 2023, with 287 students distributed into various courses.
"226 out of the students have now reached their final year and are expected to proudly graduate in October this year as the first graduands of FCE Gidan Madi," Umar-Zaki said. He also mentioned that 276 students were admitted in the second year and are currently at the NCE II level.
The Provost highlighted the college's focus on infrastructure development to create an ideal learning environment. "I am happy to announce that the College has witnessed significant infrastructural development, especially in the year 2024," he said, listing the construction of workshops, classrooms, laboratories, and offices.
Umar-Zaki outlined plans for 2025, including providing equipment for workshops, laboratories, and offices, as well as upgrading ICT facilities and building a sports arena. He commended the President, Bola Tinubu, for the massive budgets for education and the Federal Ministry of Education for their support.
The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmad Aliyu, represented by the State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Isah Maishanu, promised to sustain support for the college. The Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr. Abdullahi Adamu, thanked the Federal Government for establishing the college and lauded the Sokoto State government for its support.
The Provost of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto (SSCOE), Dr. Tambari Umar-Yabo, congratulated the matriculating students and advised them to study well and be good ambassadors of the college.
