Kebbi State Governor Intensifies Fight Against Bandits, Warns Informants

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has expressed outrage over a recent vicious attack by suspected Lakurawa bandits in Augie Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of about 20 people, mostly vigilante members. The attack occurred on Sunday afternoon when a large number of gunmen invaded several villages under Yola District, stealing herds of cattle.

In response to the attack, Governor Idris paid a condolence visit to the Palace of the Traditional Ruler of the District Headquarters, Lamnen Yola, Alhaji Kabiru Hussaini, where he expressed deep sympathy with the families and relations of the deceased. He also donated N50 million to the bereaved families, reaffirming his commitment to tackling the menace of banditry.

"It is disgusting and criminal that some people are receiving miserable token amounts of money to allow bandits to murder their people. The government will act decisively," Governor Idris stated. He emphasized that his administration has prioritized security matters, investing significant resources to address the challenges.

The governor noted that while his administration has achieved considerable success in Kebbi South, Zuru, and Yauri axis, a new corridor of incursions by bandits has opened in Argungu Emirate, which was previously peaceful. He urged vigilante members to refrain from blindly pursuing bandits and instead allow trained security services to handle combat operations.

"We shall continue to pursue the bandits in their locations and wherever they may be camped, not waiting for them to attack," Governor Idris vowed. He also expressed concern that neighboring states are not doing enough to tackle the problem.

The Chairman of Augie Local Government Council, Alhaji Yahaya Augie, and the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama'ila Muhammadu Mera, briefed the governor on the situation, thanking him for taking prompt action to restore security. "Governor Nasir Idris has constantly called me to stay informed about the happenings due to his concern for the well-being of the people," Augie said.
