The Bauchi South Concerned Citizens Movement, a political pressure group, has strongly condemned the alleged physical harassment of Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs, by agents or cronies of the Bauchi State Government. The group expressed outrage over the incident, describing it as an egregious act that undermines democracy, rule of law, and human dignity.
"We are outraged by this egregious act, which undermines democracy, rule of law, and human dignity, especially as it affects one of our own, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Honourable Yusuf Tuggar," the movement said in a press statement signed by its spokesperson, Hon. Bala Juwara. "Ambassador Tuggar's distinguished service and contributions to Bauchi State and Nigeria warrant respect and protection by every well-meaning citizen."
The Bauchi South citizens demanded an immediate investigation and prosecution of the perpetrators of the dastardly act, as well as a guarantee of Ambassador Tuggar's safety and security. They also demanded an unconditional written apology from the Bauchi State Government, with an undertaking that such an act would not recur.
"We stand in solidarity with Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar and commit to seeking justice and promoting accountability in governance," Hon. Bala Juwara assured. "We urge responsible citizens, leaders, and stakeholders to join the movement in condemning this incident, as it demands accountability and respect for human rights."
The incident has been linked to an alleged altercation involving the Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Rt. Hon. Auwal Mohammed Jatau, who was said to have slapped the Minister of Foreign Affairs, reportedly in retaliation on behalf of his principal. However, the Deputy Governor's media aide, Muslim Lawal, has denied the allegation.
