Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has constituted a committee headed by the Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, to investigate and address the persistent power outages in the state. This move comes as the governor reaffirms the state's commitment to supporting the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) in addressing the situation.
Speaking at a meeting of the Kebbi Elders Consultative Forum on Monday in Birnin Kebbi, Governor Idris revealed that the state government provides a monthly support of N150 million to KAEDCO to support electricity supply to the state. Additionally, the government has purchased 75 transformers and other essential accessories based on KAEDCO's recommendations.
"The current electricity challenges lay solely with KAEDCO and not the State Government," Governor Idris emphasized. "We have taken all necessary steps to support power supply in the state." The governor made this statement in response to complaints from residents about the lack of electricity, with some claiming they only receive power for two or three hours a day.
"Some residents of Kebbi State are complaining about lack of electricity," Governor Idris said. "Some say they only get power for two or three hours a day, honestly, I don't know what's happening, as far as we're concerned, we've done our part and fulfilled our obligations, this is not what we agreed upon with them."
The governor's commitment to addressing the power outages is evident in the establishment of the committee, which will work to identify the root causes of the problem and find solutions. With the state's financial support and provision of essential equipment, it is expected that the committee will be able to find a lasting solution to the power outages plaguing Kebbi State.
