Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, commissioned the newly renovated and rehabilitated Argungu General Hospital on Monday in Argungu Local Government Area. The governor revealed that he was alerted to the hospital's poor condition by a patient via text message, prompting him to visit the hospital at 11pm and subsequently award the renovation contract.
"I was not informed by anybody about the condition of the hospital, but a patient sent me a text message, and I immediately drove down to the hospital around 11pm to see things for myself. This is what prompted me to award the rehabilitation and renovation of the hospital with modern health equipment," Governor Idris explained.
The governor also provided a new ambulance bus to convey patients in case of referrals to Birnin Kebbi or Usman Dan Fodiyo Teaching Hospital Sokoto. He emphasized that his administration renovated the hospital to reduce the burden on patients and provide access to healthcare facilities closer to them.
"We are trying to fulfill the promises we pledged during our electioneering campaign, and even non-promising ones, like the award of road construction in Argungu, which was not part of our campaign promises made for Argungu people, but because we want people of Argungu emirate to be proud of the present administration of Kauran Gwandu," Governor Idris added.
The governor warned the Commissioner for Health and the hospital management to ensure proper maintenance and care of the modern equipment installed in the hospital. He stated that the government would monitor and supervise the proper utilization of the equipment to ensure that the people of Argungu benefit from the renovation.
Governor Idris also ordered the immediate removal of the present (PMO) due to his inability to manage the hospital property effectively. He directed that a capable and qualified person be posted to head the hospital.
"We can't continue retaining a head that can't manage the hospital property as expected," Governor Idris warned.
The governor expressed his administration's commitment to addressing the challenges faced by health workers, including increasing salaries of doctors and nurses. He appreciated the Argungu Emirate Council for their continued support to his administration and the people of Argungu for their vital role in the recent local government council elections.
