Kebbi Governor's Food Security Efforts Get Thumbs Up from Minister Sen. Kyari

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari, has praised Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, for his commitment to boosting food production and ensuring food security in the state.

Speaking at the launch of the 2025 dry season farming and distribution of Ramadan palliatives in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday, Kyari described Governor Idris as a compassionate and visionary leader. "His initiatives have empowered farmers, increased yields, and contributed to food price stability," Kyari noted.

Governor Idris, while performing the ceremony, reaffirmed his administration's commitment to enhancing food production and ensuring food security. He announced that all farming implements and foodstuffs would be distributed free of charge to beneficiaries.

The items to be distributed include 10,000 solar-powered water pumps, 10,000 gasoline-powered water pumps, 3,000 LPG-powered water pumps, 3,000 power tillers, 10,000 knapsack sprayers, and 10,000 liters each of herbicides, pesticides, and organic fertilizer, as well as improved rice seeds and assorted fertilizers.

Additionally, under the 2025/1446 AH Ramadan palliatives, 200 trucks of assorted foodstuffs will be distributed to support citizens during the fasting period. Governor Idris warned against diversion or sale of the food items and called on the committee responsible for sharing the food palliatives to have the fear of God in the distribution exercise.

The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, assured that the distribution process would be free from political bias, with beneficiaries drawn from registered farmers' cooperatives under the State Ministry of Agriculture.

Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Shehu Mu'azu, praised the Governor's dedication to agricultural development, stating that Kebbi State has become synonymous with dry-season farming due to his efforts in creating an enabling environment for farmers.

Important dignitaries at the event included the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu; the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Tanko Yusuf Sununu; and other top government officials.
