The Kogi State Project Implementation Unit (SPIU) of the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project has intensified its efforts to engage traditional leaders in the state, seeking their royal blessings and support for the project. Led by State Project Coordinator, Dr. Abdulhakeem Bello, the AGILE team visited key traditional rulers, including His Royal Highness, Alhaji Saidu Akawu Salihu, Ohimege Igu of Koton Karfe, and His Royal Highness, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Muhammadu Kabir Maikarfi IV, the Maigari of Lokoja.
The visit aimed to enlist their support for the project's objectives, which include improving access to quality education, enhancing school infrastructure, and empowering adolescent girls across Kogi State. Dr. Abdulhakeem emphasized the vital role of traditional institutions in mobilizing communities for the successful implementation of the AGILE project. "The initiative, supported by the World Bank, seeks to create a conducive learning environment and provide opportunities for young girls to acquire digital literacy and vocational skills," he noted.
The Ohimege Igu lauded the AGILE team for its dedication to improving the education sector and pledged his full support. "Education is key to community development, and we are committed to supporting initiatives that promote girls' education and empowerment," he said. Similarly, the Maigari of Lokoja commended the project's objectives and assured the team of his commitment to sensitizing his people about the benefits of the initiative.
The visits were attended by SPIU members, royal fathers, and key community stakeholders, all reaffirming their commitment to collaborative efforts aimed at ensuring the success of the AGILE project in Kogi State. The AGILE team will continue its advocacy efforts across other regions, seeking the partnership of more traditional rulers and community leaders in promoting girls' education and empowerment.
