Kogi State Government has expressed deep sympathies over the tragic accident in Lokoja, which claimed several lives and left many severely injured. The incident has caused immense pain to families, the Federal University of Lokoja community, and the state as a whole.
According to Kingsley Femi Fanwo, Honorable Commissioner for Information and Communications, the state government acknowledges the immense pain caused to the affected families and the community. "It is indeed a sad day in the state. As we mourn the loss of precious lives, we acknowledge the immense pain caused to the affected families and the community," Fanwo stated.
The incident has highlighted the need for a safer highway, particularly in areas surrounding institutions of learning and populated regions. To address this, the State Ministry of Works has been directed to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Works to enforce speed limits on the part of the road covering the Federal University, Lokoja.
Additionally, the State Security Adviser and the Commissioner for Transportation have been tasked with developing strategies to regulate the movement of heavy trucks during active hours along the institution. The government urges all road users to exercise caution and calls on students to remain calm, assuring them that the state is committed to improving safety measures in collaboration with the university management.
Fanwo stated on behalf of the governor, "Our hearts are with the families of the victims in this dark hour. May God strengthen them to deal with the irreparable loss."
