The Maigari of Lokoja, HRM Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi IV, has emphasized the need for the Federal Government to assign constitutional roles to traditional rulers, citing their proximity to the people. He made this known during a media chat with newsmen, marking his one-year anniversary on the throne.
According to the Maigari, his role as a traditional ruler enables him to be accessible to the people, providing firsthand information on their needs before the government. He advocated for roles that would improve the well-being of the masses, emphasizing that traditional rulers remain custodians of the people's culture and tradition.
The Maigari described his office as a significant task, but attributed his success to his upbringing in the royal home, where his grandfather and father served as former Maigari. He noted that his experience, exposure, and travels have equipped him to unite and galvanize the people for development.
As part of his anniversary, the Maigari visited health facilities in his domain, donating free drugs and paying medical bills for the vulnerable. He urged the people to share their resources with the sick and needy, making the society a better place.
The Maigari commended the present administration of Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo, praising his commitment to the people's well-being. He appealed to the Governor to continue his good works by remaining accessible to the people.
The Commissioner for Water Resources, Engr Yahaya MD Farouk, and the Member representing Lokoja 1 State Constituency, Hon. Tijani Ebaya, also praised the Maigari's uniting roles and achievements during his one-year tenure.
