Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, recently visited the proposed site for a new Government Residential Area (GRA) in Birnin Kebbi. The site, located at the South Eastern part of Kawara village, was inspected by the governor in the company of top government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Bala Yakubu Tafida.
During the visit, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Lands and Housing, TPL Dr. Abubakar Ahmed (Sarkin Yan Sarki), presented a detailed layout map of the proposed GRA. The map highlighted the benefits of the project, including improved accessibility, increased housing opportunities, and enhanced government revenue. Governor Idris commended the foresight of the Ministry of Lands and Housing, describing the project as promising and beneficial to the people of Kebbi State.
The governor assured that the proposal would be thoroughly reviewed before further action. Speaking to journalists, the Permanent Secretary explained that the visit was to provide the governor with firsthand insight into the project. He noted that the project spans 620 hectares and includes 383 commercial plots and 2002 low-density residential plots. The project also incorporates provisions for government and quasi-government offices, with about 100 plots dedicated to such facilities.
According to the Permanent Secretary, the proposed GRA is a mega project based on a cost-benefit analysis. The layout is expected to generate billions in revenue for the state government, while also facilitating economic and residential development. The proposed GRA is anticipated to transform Birnin Kebbi by opening up more accessible roads and enhancing the city's infrastructure and housing sector.
