Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, has flagged off the construction of the 11-kilometer Maidangwami-Kangi road in Fakai Local Government Area, at a cost of N2.3 billion. The governor performed the flag-off ceremony during his thank-you visit to Fakai, Sakaba, and Danko Wasagu Local Government Areas.
"This is a momentous and joyous occasion for me and the benefiting communities. It's a fulfillment of my campaign promise when I sought your mandate in the 2023 elections," Governor Idris said. "The people of Kangi supported me, and APC triumphed in the polls. Whenever we visit this town, we are full of happiness."
The governor assured that the contractor would execute a quality job according to specifications and contractual agreements. He also reaffirmed his administration's commitment to providing free fertilizer to farmers throughout his tenure.
"My administration is a government of the people. This is the only administration, not only in the North but also in the entire Nigeria, to give out fertilizer and assorted grains free to the citizenry," Governor Idris emphasized.
During his visit, Governor Idris also commissioned the newly renovated Palace of the Chief of Mahuta Chiefdom, Alhaji Udu Dan Mallam, and received defectors from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor highlighted other projects executed by his administration, including township roads in Argungu, Yauri, and the state capital, Birnin Kebbi. He announced plans to begin the construction of the dilapidated Koko-Dabai road and improve the education sector by increasing school feeding expenditure and paying registration, tuition, and examination fees for students.
Governor Idris also affirmed his respect for traditional institutions, subsidizing Hajj for pilgrims, and purchasing sacrificial animals (Hadaya) free for Kebbi State pilgrims in the Holy Land.
At Dirin Daji, Sakaba Local Government Area, Governor Idris expressed gratitude to the people for their unwavering support to him and the APC, which secured victory for the party in the last general elections. He approved the construction of a female secondary school and provision of electricity, as requested by the District Head and the Local Government Chairman.
Furthermore, he announced plans to assess and begin construction of the Makuku road. Similarly, at Ribah, Danko-Wasagu Local Government, Governor Idris flagged off the construction of the Ribah-Maga road, appreciating the people of the area for their political support.
In the course of his visit to Fakai, Sakaba, and Danko Wasagu, Governor Idris received hundreds of defectors from the PDP to the APC, strengthening political unity and understanding.
The Kebbi State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) is part of a larger project supported by the International Development Association (IDA), a subsidiary of the World Bank, and the L’Agence Française de Development (French Development Agency or AFD). The project aims to improve transport conditions and bring sustained access to rural populations by rehabilitating and maintaining key rural transport infrastructure in selected areas in Nigerian states.
