Breaking: Argungu Fishing Festival Rescheduled for 2026, Says Kebbi State Government

The Kebbi State Government has announced the rescheduling of the 61st Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival from February 2025 to 2026. This decision was made after consulting with the Argungu Emirate Council, as stated by Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, OFR, Deputy Governor of Kebbi State and Chairman of the Committee for the 2025 Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival.

"The decision to reschedule the festival was necessitated by the need to carry out befitting standard and permanent repairs of the structures at the festival's venues," Senator Tafida explained. "Additionally, the ongoing road dualization and other development projects in Argungu Township, as well as other peculiar reasons, have forced the shifting of the festival to 2026."

Despite the rescheduling, the Kebbi State Government remains committed to organizing a world-class fishing and cultural festival that showcases the rich cultural heritage of the people of Kebbi State. "We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of the public, stakeholders, and participants in this regard," Senator Tafida said. "Let us continue to work together towards a brighter future for Kebbi State."

The Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival is a significant event in Nigeria's cultural calendar, attracting participants and spectators from across the country and beyond. The festival, which has been recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity, celebrates the traditional fishing practices and cultural heritage of the people of Argungu.
