Yauri Council Chairman Champions Farming for Sustainable Future

Hon. Abubakar Shuaibu, Chairman of Yauri Local Government Council in Kebbi State, is leading the charge to promote farming as a vital means of survival and self-reliance. During a recent visit to his personal rice and onions farm in the Rakana fadama area where he already havested rice and now planting onions, Shuaibu encouraged the people of the emirate to engage in farming activities, highlighting the impressive increase in food production in the region.

As the Sole Administrator of Yauri Local Government Council, appointed by Governor Nasir Idris in March 2024, and later elected as council chairman, Shuaibu brings his expertise as a successful businessman and politician to empower farmers in the emirate. He aims to achieve this through initiatives and collaborations with stakeholders, advising farmers to strive for large-scale production of paddy rice.

Shuaibu expressed satisfaction with the progress made in the Fadama area, noting its potential for increased food production. To further boost farming and support farmers, the local government council seeks partnerships with concerned authorities and stakeholders. He appealed to well-meaning individuals and stakeholders to invest in farming activities, particularly in Yauri's Fadama land, renowned for its fertile soil. Shuaibu also urged agricultural donor partners to assist Yauri farmers, promoting agricultural growth and development in the region.

Yauri's rich cultural heritage and history as a major agricultural hub make it an ideal location for farming . Located in Kebbi State, the emirate boasts fertile land and riverine resources, making it an attractive destination for agricultural investment. By promoting farming, Shuaibu aims to harness these resources, ensuring a sustainable future for the people of Yauri.

The chairman's efforts align with the emirate's history of agricultural excellence, dating back to the 16th century when the Gungawa kingdom expanded through war with the Kamberis.  Today, Yauri remains one of the smallest historical emirates in Northern Nigeria, with a population of around 112,000 people . By championing farming, Shuaibu is paving the way for a brighter, more sustainable future for Yauri's residents.
