The Kebbi State Technical Working Group (TWG) on Gender-Based Violence has appealed to the state government to mobilize local government chairmen, their spouses, and influential figures to actively participate in the 16 Days of Activism in their respective areas. This call to action comes as 80% of GBV cases originate from these localities.
Comrade Nasiru Idris, Secretary of the TWG, emphasized that community engagement is crucial in combating GBV. By equipping women and parents with knowledge, GBV cases can significantly decrease. Idris praised the judiciary's creation of dedicated courts handling GBV cases, resulting in successful convictions and life imprisonment judgments for rape cases.
The TWG meeting aimed to harmonize activities among Civil Society Organizations and consolidate efforts into a unified template. Idris urged parents to report GBV incidents promptly and assured the Ministry of Justice of continued support and collaboration.
With the state government's support, Kebbi aims to reduce GBV incidents and create a safer environment for its citizens.
