Kebbi State Takes a Stand Against Gender-Based Violence: 16 Days of Activism

The Kebbi State Gender-Based Violence Technical Working Group (TWG) is set to embark on an awareness march against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) today, marking the beginning of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. The march, scheduled to start at 8 a.m., will take place along the Expressway of Birnin Kebbi metropolis, beginning from the College of Nursing and ending at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi.

According to Comrade Nasir Idris, Secretary of the TWG, the march signifies the unwavering commitment of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to eradicating GBV in Kebbi and Nigeria as a whole. Over 1,000 participants, including Kebbi First Lady Hajiya Nasare Nasir Idris and members of the public, will walk in solidarity, culminating in the submission of a petition to the state government demanding swift action and accountability in tackling GBV.

Comrade Nasir emphasized that the march is more than just a symbolic gesture. "We stand united in the fight to protect the rights and dignity of all Nigerians, especially the most vulnerable. Together, through legislative reforms and collective action, we can build a society where safety, justice, and equality prevail."

The event is part of a larger campaign marking the 16 Days of Activism. On November 26, all members will wear orange sashes in solidarity with the cause. The campaign will also include a national summit on December 10, where discussions will focus on constitutional reforms and advancing gender equality initiatives.

As Comrade Nasir stated, "This march and the accompanying activities underscore the technical working group's dedication to naking Kebbi and Nigeria a free of violence, where the rights of every citizen are protected."
