The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) extends its deepest condolences on the passing of I.K. Sanusi, SAN, a renowned colleague, leader, and mentor, whose untimely departure on Thursday, October 17, 2024, has left an unfillable void in the legal community and beyond.
This was disclosed in a letter addressed to the Kebbi State Branch Chairman, dated October 20th, 2024, and signed by NBA President Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN. The letter was also made available to series News Online in Birnin Kebbi.
Learned Silk I.K. Sanusi, SAN, was a man of unquestionable integrity, humility, and a deep sense of justice. Throughout his remarkable legal career, he distinguished himself as a beacon of excellence, humility, and commitment to the rule of law. His elevation to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in 2012 was a testament to his hard work, diligence, and unflinching dedication to the legal profession.
He broke barriers, being the first legal practitioner from the Kebbi state ministry of justice to be conferred with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), and his contributions to the legal landscape, both as a private legal practitioner, were invaluable.
The statement said, "The legacy he leaves behind is a testament to his life's work - a man who stood for justice, fairness, and honesty. His immense contributions as state Counsel, Director of public prosecutions, permanent Secretary of the Kebbi state ministry of Environment, and finally as principal partner of I. K. Sanusi (SAN) & co, speak volumes of a career marked by distinction, service, and compassion for all who sought his counsel."
I.K. Sanusi, SAN, was more than a legal luminary. He was a man of great faith, known for his kindness, generosity, and dedication to the principles of Ibadah and for the fear of Allah. He lived an exemplary life that touched many, inspiring all who came across him both professionally and personally.
His commitment to philanthropy, community service, and humanity will forever be remembered. As we mourn this great loss, let us reflect on the numerous life lessons and legacies he left behind - legacies of integrity, humility, and service to others. His contributions to the legal profession and his community will not be forgotten.
May Allah grant you the strength to bear this irreparable loss.
