Kebbi State Executive Council constitute committee to investigate college of Health Jega Chaos

The Kebbi State Executive Council presided by Governor Nasir Idris, has set up a powerful committee to investigate the remote causes of students' disturbances at the College of Health Sciences, Jega.

Last week, the students burned down the house of the Provost and severely damaged his car in a violent protest over non accreditation of courses in the institution.

Briefing newsmen on the outcome of the weekly meeting of the Council in Birnin Kebbi, this Wednesday, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmad Birnin Kebbi, said the Committee has two weeks to report back to the government.

"The eight member committee is chaired by the Commissioner for Environment, Musa Muhammad Tungulawa, including my humble self and other Commissioners",

"The terms of reference, are to carefully investigate the cause(s) of the riot, the role played by actors, to quantify damage done to property and recommend ways against recurrence",

"Governor Nasir Idris and other members of the Executive Council view the disturbances very serious, it is the first time in the life of incumbent administration",

"The government is determined to forestall a repeat of the ugly incident in any of our institutions, measures will be taken to properly deal with it", the Commissioner warned.

Alhaji Yakubu Ahmad Birnin Kebbi announced the dissolution of the interim committee earlier set up by the Ministry for Higher Education on the matter.

Retired Head of Service and present Special Adviser to the Governor on Civil Service Matters, Safiyanu Garba Bena, will serve as Secretary of the Committee.
