Non-governmental organizations and human rights advocates in Kebbi State are calling on the state government to take custody of a six-year-old girl who was allegedly victimized by her uncle and his wife.
Comrade Nasir Idris, Secretary of the Technical Working Group on Gender-Based Violence, disclosed this in an interview. He stated that the TWG on GBV visited the Sexual Assault Referral Center in Kalgo on October 25, 2024, to interface with the victim, Fatima.
Fatima received heartfelt sympathy and financial assistance from the TWG on GBV. She has been discharged and is under protective care, receiving community support and safety.
Idris emphasized the need for government intervention, suggesting sponsorship of Fatima's care through her biological mother or alternative arrangements.
The TWG on GBV also monitored the ongoing investigation into the alleged perpetrators at the Criminal Investigation Department. Fatima's biological parents have been invited for interrogation.
The community appreciates the police's dedication and the TWG's efforts in supporting Fatima and advocating for justice.
This case highlights the need for accountability and protection for vulnerable children and individuals.
