Arewa Awareness on Good Governance has urged Honourable Cecelia Ogbeche Odok, Senior Legislative Aide to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, to refrain from calling for the reinstatement of suspended Humanitarian Minister Dr. Betta Edu. The coalition's spokesperson, Grema Ibrahim Musa, emphasized that Dr. Edu's suspension is necessary for investigating serious fraud allegations against her.
Musa stated that allowing due process to unfold is crucial for ensuring accountability and transparency in governance. He added that Dr. Edu, like all citizens, is not above the law and must face the consequences of her actions.
The coalition expressed concerns that Ogbeche Odok's emotional appeal overlooks the gravity of the allegations and undermines President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's efforts to combat corruption. They emphasized the importance of prioritizing accountability, transparency, and institutional integrity.
Spoken man highlighted that Dr. Edu's suspension prevents potential interference or obstruction of the investigation. Ignoring these allegations would undermine Nigeria's anti-corruption efforts and erode public trust.
While the coliation warned that reinstating Dr. Edu without resolving the allegations would have far-reaching consequences, including: Undermining the President's authority and credibilit, Creating uncertainty in the Ministry, hindering its critical work and impacting vulnerable populations damaging Nigeria's anti-corruption efforts and international reputation, discouraging foreign investment and undermining national progress.
However, the coalition appealed to Ogbeche Odok and others to respect the President's decision-making process, support thorough investigation and accountability, and prioritize Nigeria's progress over individual interests.
By doing so, they aim to ensure that the investigation into Dr. Edu's alleged fraud is conducted fairly and that those responsible are held accountable, promoting transparency and fairness in governance.
