The incident, which occurred on Friday, October 23, 2026, reportedly involved Corporal Amos Yusuf and Woman Corporal Grace Onimisi, who both died following the shooting.

In a press release issued over the weekend, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, said the incident was reported to the police at about 11:04 p.m., prompting the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Ajaokuta to lead a team of officers to the scene.

According to preliminary findings, Corporal Yusuf, who was on night duty, allegedly shot Woman Corporal Onimisi before shooting himself.

The police spokesperson said both officers were rushed to separate medical facilities, where medical personnel confirmed them dead. Their remains have been deposited at the mortuary of ASCO Hospital. The statement added that an AK-47 rifle and four expended cartridges were recovered at the scene as exhibits.

The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Command stated that the motive behind the shooting remains unknown, adding that it would not speculate on issues that had yet to be established through investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, psc, mni, expressed condolences to the families, colleagues and loved ones of the deceased officers over the tragic incident.
The Command assured the public that verified updates would be provided as appropriate.
