Kebbi Sacks Abdullahi Fodio University VC, Dissolves Governing Council

Birnin Kebbi, Nigeria — May 1, 2026(Series News Online)- The Kebbi State Government has dissolved the Governing Council of Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero, and sacked the Vice-Chancellor and other principal officers of the institution.  

The decision was announced on Wednesday in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala-Tafida, following deliberations by the State Executive Council.  

According to the SSG, the move was based on recommendations contained in the report of the visitation panel constituted by the state government to assess the university.  

“On the recommendation of the Visitation Panel constituted by the Kebbi State Government, the State Executive Council has approved the dissolution of the Governing Council of Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero,” Bala-Tafida said.  

He disclosed that the Vice-Chancellor and the two Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Academics and Administration, had been relieved of their appointments with immediate effect.  

“The Vice-Chancellor and the two Deputy Vice-Chancellors of Academics and Administration have been relieved of their appointments,” the SSG stated.  

The government also removed the Registrar and Bursar of the institution. In addition, the appointment of one Abba Muhammad Adua was terminated.  

“The Registrar and Bursar of the institution have also been removed, while the appointment of one Abba Muhammad Adua has also been terminated,” he added.  

To stabilize the university, the government announced the appointment of Prof. Samaila Arzika Mungadi as Sole Administrator.  

“Prof. Samaila Arzika Mungadi has been appointed as the Sole Administrator of the university with the responsibility of stabilising governance,” Bala-Tafida said.  

He explained that the sole administrator was saddled with the task of restoring academic integrity pending the reconstitution of a new governing council.

The SSG confirmed that the decision takes effect from Wednesday, April 30, 2026.  

“The decision takes effect from today, April 30, 2026,” he said.  

Bala-Tafida commended the visitation panel for its work, noting that its findings guided the government’s action.  

“We appreciate the members of the visitation panel for doing a thorough job that gave the State Executive Council a headway,” he said.
