The Kebbi State Government has given the green light for public and private schools in urban areas to reopen on January 5, 2026.
Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Associate Prof. Halimatu Muhammad -Bande, announced the decision while addressing journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday, emphasizing that the directive only applies to schools in city centres and major towns.
"The state government has put in place adequate security measures to ensure the safety of pupils, students, and teachers in the affected schools," Muhammad-Bande said.
"We are appealing to parents and guardians to release their wards to resume school as scheduled. The government is doing everything humanly possible to secure all schools that are reopening."
The commissioner clarified that schools in rural or vulnerable areas are exempt from the resumption order, adding that they will receive further instructions.
"Only schools within cities and major towns are covered by the directive. No school in remote or vulnerable areas should resume until further notice," she stressed.
