The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State has strongly refuted persistent social media speculation that Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed is planning to leave the party for the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Describing the claims as "fake, baseless, and irresponsible," the party leadership assured the public that the governor remains a committed leader within the PDP.
This is not the first time Governor Mohammed has been the subject of defection rumors; similar stories have circulated in the past regarding potential moves to the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) . In a press conference on Friday, Bauchi PDP Chairman, Hon. Samaila Adamu Burga, stated that the latest rumor was "decisively debunked" during a major stakeholders' meeting on January 4, 2026, where party leaders passed a unanimous vote of confidence in the governor.
Series news online reports that, Burga emphasized that the governor's principled stands have made him a target. "The Governor's principled stance on constitutional order, fairness, and national issues has not come without challenges, including harassment, intimidation, and orchestrated media attacks," he said, noting that these pressures have not swayed the governor's loyalty. This sentiment aligns with previous statements from Bauchi lawmakers who have also defended the governor against what they called "malicious" allegations.
Reaffirming his allegiance at the meeting, Governor Mohammed expressed his gratitude for the party's support and renewed his commitment to the PDP. Burga stressed that the governor does not act alone on major political decisions, stating, "Consultation, inclusiveness, and collective leadership remain core values of the PDP". He added unequivocally, "At no time, either privately or publicly, has Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed expressed any intention to defect to the ADC, APC, or any other political party".
