AFUSTA Makes History with First-Ever Combined Convocation, Graduates Over 7,200

The Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero (AFUSTA), is celebrating a major milestone today as it holds its first-ever combined convocation ceremony, conferring degrees, diplomas, and certificates on 7,221 graduates. The historic event marks the culmination of academic sessions spanning from 2010/2011 to 2023/2024 and takes place nearly two decades after the university's establishment. 

In a pre-convocation press briefing, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor B.G. Danshehu, highlighted the significance of the day. “This maiden convocation coincides with 19 years of sustained academic activities at AFUSTA and represents the first in the university’s history,” he stated. Professor Danshehu, who has led the university for 16 months, noted his administration's goal is to transform AFUSTA into a globally competitive, first-class institution.

The ceremony will also feature the formal investiture of the university's Chancellor, Dr. Muhammad Zayyanu Abdullahi, the Emir of Yauri. A host of dignitaries are expected to attend, including the governors of Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, and Imo states, as well as traditional rulers like the Sultan of Sokoto and the Ooni of Ife. 

Several prominent leaders will be awarded honorary doctorate degrees in recognition of their contributions to national development. The list of honorees includes Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris; Zamfara State Governor, Dr. Dauda Lawal; Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu; Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma; the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III; and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II. The convocation lecture will be delivered by the Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum.
