Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State — November 25, 2025-(Series news online)- Residents of Illelar Yari, behind the Old Correctional Facility in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area, were shaken Monday morning by the brutal killing of 14‑year‑old Salisu Hassan, a pupil of the Qur’anic school at Zawiyyar Malam Mainasara. The incident, which occurred around 6 a.m., was reported by fellow almajiri who discovered his lifeless body near the school premises.
Speaking after the burial, the boy’s father, Malam Hassan Abubakar, recounted the harrowing details. “My son, Salisu Hassan, 14 years old, was lured away from the school under the pretext of being sent on an errand by a neighbour. He was taken to a hidden spot near the school and stabbed repeatedly in the neck with a sharp knife, left to bleed to death. Around 7 a.m., other almajiri found his body behind the school and alerted us. We rushed him to the hospital, where doctors confirmed he had died from the wounds,” he said, his voice trembling.
Malam Hassan added that the funeral prayer was held at the school before Salisu was laid to rest at Birnin Kebbi main cemetery, with thousands of mourners in attendance.
Confirming the tragedy, Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer SP Nafiu Abubakar told newsmen, “The suspect, Jame Jidda, is in police custody at Birnin Kebbi Division. Investigations are ongoing, and once completed, he will be arraigned before a competent court.”
The community and relatives are demanding swift justice as grief spreads through the Qur’anic school and surrounding neighbourhood.
