The National Union of Kebbi State Students (NUKESS) has commended the Executive Governor of Kebbi State, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu), for his unwavering commitment to improving education and student welfare across the state. In a statement, the union expressed profound appreciation to the Governor for his recent approvals and financial interventions aimed at revitalizing educational institutions and easing the burdens on students.
According to NUKESS, Governor Idris has approved and released funds for several educational initiatives, including ₦230,205,981.96 for the renovation of hostels at the State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Jega, and ₦251,525,065.00 for the purchase of equipment for the new College of Midwifery, Ambursa, Birnin Kebbi. Additionally, the Governor approved ₦695,936,660.00 for the payment of outstanding registration fees for Kebbi State students studying in various Nigerian tertiary institutions for the 2024/2025 academic session, and ₦449,193,400.80 for the accreditation of Health Sciences courses at the Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology (AFUSTA), Aliero.
The union noted that these efforts have brought immense relief to students, improved learning environments, and strengthened the capacity of tertiary institutions across Kebbi State. "These initiatives have not only eased the financial burdens on our students but also enhanced the overall quality of education in Kebbi State," the statement read.
On behalf of all Kebbi State students, NUKESS thanked Governor Idris for his consistent support and dedication to educational growth, describing him as a true champion of youth and human capital development. The union further urged the Governor to continue to sustain his prioritization of education, assuring that NUKESS will collaborate with Government and relevant stakeholders to safeguard students’ interests and promote academic excellence statewide.
The statement concluded by affirming Governor Idris' administration's commitment to investing in education as the cornerstone of sustainable development and a pathway to empowering Kebbi's next generation of leaders.
