The Kogi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) is gearing up to launch its 2025 Press Week, themed "Kogi State's Solid Minerals: How Media Can Drive Development". The week-long event will commence on Friday, September 19, 2025, with a grand finale scheduled for September 25 at EdgeDrive Hotel Lokoja.
According to the State NUJ Chairman, Seidu Ademu, and Secretary, Olusegun Ayindero-Oyenibi, the press week aims to provide a platform for sober reflection and reposition the union for effective service delivery. Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is expected to attend the grand finale as the Special Guest of Honour, alongside other dignitaries and top government officials.
The NUJ will honour 11 individuals for their contributions to the state's development and positive impact on society, including Senators Sunday Karimi and Jibrin Isah, House of Representatives members Arch. Salman Idris and Barr. Sanni Egidi Abdulrahm, government officials Hon. Wemi Jones, Commander Jerry Omodara, and Comr. Onuh Edoka, academics Prof. Marietu Ohunene Tenuche and Dr. Paul Femi Fashagba, traditional ruler HRM Oba Muyiwa Ibeun, and entrepreneur Alhaji Bello Mutari.
The Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engr. Bashiru Abubakar Gegu, will serve as the Chairman for the 2025 NUJ Press Week and Grand Finale. The NUJ National President, Comr. Alhassan Yahya Abdul, and other national and zonal officers are expected to attend the grand finale. His Royal Majesty, Alhaji Dr. Saidu Akawu Salihu, the Ohimegye Igu Kingdom, will serve as the Royal Father of the day.
