The Forum of Former Members of the Kebbi State House of Assembly has unanimously passed a vote of confidence in Governor Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, endorsing his candidacy for re-election in 2027.
The endorsement was made during a courtesy visit to Governor Idris at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi, led by the forum's Chairman, Rt. Hon. Hassan Muhammad Shalla Gwandu, who stated, "What you see here today is just a fraction of our membership. We came together to form this forum to provide you with the necessary support to reach even greater heights."
Rt. Hon. Shalla, who also chairs the Kebbi State Contributory Pension Board, emphasized the purpose of the visit, saying, "The visit was to express our loyalty and solidarity with the Governor in recognition of his remarkable achievements across the state within the two years in power."
The forum, comprising former Speakers, Deputy Speakers, and Committee Chairmen, praised Governor Idris's accomplishments. Rt. Hon. Shalla noted, "We are living witnesses to the tremendous infrastructural and human capital development you have achieved. You have transformed Birnin Kebbi into a modern city with projects such as the new motor park, Secretariat Complex, and extensive road network in the state."
Rt. Hon. Jafar Muhammad, a former legislator and ex-Commissioner for Health, moved the motion for endorsement, citing Governor Idris's successes in various fields. He stated, "The tremendous successes recorded by Governor Nasir Idris in all fields of human endeavour warrants a vote of confidence on Kauran Gwandu and support to his re-election in 2027."
The motion was seconded by former member Nafi',u Aliyu Bagudo and unanimously adopted by the forum through a voice vote, making it incumbent upon them to support Governor Idris's re-election bid.
In response, Governor Nasir Idris expressed gratitude, saying, "I express gratitude to the forum for identifying with my administration and acknowledging its achievements." He highlighted key achievements, including a free education policy, improvements in healthcare, security enhancements, and various developmental projects statewide.
Governor Idris commended the ex-lawmakers' contributions to Kebbi State's development and reaffirmed his commitment to delivering more democratic dividends, stating, "I commend the contributions of the ex-lawmakers to the development of Kebbi State and reaffirm my commitment to delivering more dividends of democracy to the people."
