Birnin Kebbi, June 20, 2025 – The National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Kebbi State has raised concerns about the potential consequences of displacement, warning that it could have far-reaching implications for societal stability.
Addressing a press conference to commemorate World Refugee Day 2025, NOA Director Malam Nasir Karofi highlighted the plight of displaced persons, citing the risk of increased numbers of out-of-school children, street begging, and vulnerability to recruitment by criminal elements.
"Unless carefully addressed, displacement can trigger a chain reaction of societal problems," Karofi cautioned. "When families are uprooted and their routines disrupted, children are often the hardest hit, missing out on education and opportunities for growth."
Karofi emphasized the need for collective action to mitigate the effects of displacement, urging citizens, government agencies, and partners to work together to identify, support, and provide lasting solutions for displaced persons. He praised Governor Nasir Idris for his efforts to support communities affected by banditry and encouraged the state government to develop a comprehensive strategy for addressing displacement.
In a related development, Special Adviser Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar-Jombali assured the NOA that the state government is committed to protecting its citizens and promoting their welfare. "We will work closely with relevant agencies to address the challenges faced by internally displaced persons," he said.
The commemoration of World Refugee Day 2025 serves as a poignant reminder of the need for sustained efforts to address the complex issues surrounding displacement and its impact on individuals and communities.
