"Kebbi Govt, Governor Provide N60m Relief to Timber Market Fire Victims"

Birnin Kebbi, June 16, 2025 – The Kebbi State Government has made an additional donation of N50 million to victims of the fire outbreak at the Timber Market Bayan-Kara, Birnin Kebbi. Governor Nasir Idris also gave a personal assistance of N10 million to the affected traders during a sympathy visit on Sunday.

The Governor expressed his concern for the traders, saying, "I am aware of the inferno that gutted part of the timber market leading to loss of property. I was performing the Hajj in Saudi Arabia at the time of the tragedy, but I sent a delegation led by the Deputy Governor to express deep sympathy with you during which the government made an initial donation of N10 million."

Comrade Nasir Idris further stated, "Today, I am here in person to further console with the victims of the fire incident. The government has given you an additional donation of N50 million, while in my personal capacity, I have donated N10 million to those affected; meet the SSG and collect N60 million."

The Governor reaffirmed his administration's commitment to the welfare of Kebbi people, saying, "My administration is the government of welfarism for Kebbi people in urban and rural areas. This is your government that cares for all, you have no other place of succour but here."

The Chairman of the Timber Marketers Association, Bello Dan-Sabo, thanked Governor Nasir Idris for his magnanimity, affirming loyalty and support of his members to the administration and continuity in office.

In a separate visit, Governor Nasir Idris visited the nearby Grocery Market, Bayan Kara, and announced plans for its reconstruction into a modern and technologically advanced facility. This move is part of the government's efforts to improve infrastructure and support economic growth in the state.
