The Irede Foundation, a non-governmental organization (NGO), staged a sensitization walk on advocacy and provision of prosthetics for children with limb loss in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital. The walk, titled “Full Access: No Cap", drew participants from various walks of life, aiming to increase public awareness about the challenges faced by people in need of prosthetic limbs and the benefits of providing adequate support and resources.
The Irede Foundation is an NGO focused on encouraging children living with limb loss to live a life of fulfillment. According to Mr. Thompson Yamput, Team Lead of the Foundation, the exercise aimed at creating awareness on accessibility and support for individuals with limb amputations or disabilities. "We have been in the forefront of providing indigent children with amputated limbs with free artificial limbs," he stated.
The provision of prosthetic limbs is a game-changer for children with limb loss, as it takes away the stigma associated with the challenge and ensures that their education is neither affected nor disrupted. Mr. Yamput noted that six children have benefited from the Foundation's free provision in the state over the last three years, all within the age bracket of 1-19.
The Foundation plans to expand its outreach to heavily populated areas to guarantee widespread impact across the state. "By next year, it’ll be better. By next year, we will choose densely populated areas to carry out the campaign," Mr. Yamput said. He thanked participants for their commitment and sacrifice, which made the campaign far-reaching and more rewarding.
One of the participants, Mrs. Chidozie Judith, whose child is a beneficiary, expressed appreciation for the initiative. She cited the need for more awareness and support for individuals with disabilities and encouraged parents whose children have such challenges not to hesitate to contact the Foundation.
The Irede Foundation's effort highlights the importance of collaborative work in promoting accessibility and support for vulnerable populations. The NGO's initiative has brought hope and support to children with limb loss, enabling them to live fulfilling lives.
