Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has strongly condemned the abduction of Augustine Madubiya, a 400-level student of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK). The student was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen in the early hours of Tuesday. A local resident, Malam Siddi Hussaini, was shot dead during a rescue attempt.
The Kebbi state government has taken swift action to ensure the student's safe release. Governor Idris has directed the Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to work with university authorities to secure the student's release. "The Kebbi state government has taken swift and proactive steps to ensure the safe release of the abductee," said Abdulrahman Zagga, Director of Security, Cabinet Office.
Governor Idris extended condolences to the Unguwar Jeji community and the FUBK community, expressing sympathy for the loss of life. He assured parents and students of the government's commitment to their safety and security. The incident occurred at Istijaba Villa, an off-campus hostel, and not within university premises.
In a statement, Yahaya Sarki, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Kebbi State Governor, confirmed the government's efforts to ensure the student's safe return. The Kebbi State Government has a history of collaborating with security agencies to maintain peace and order in the state.
