The Equity Bar Birnin Kebbi Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has joined the rest of the legal community in celebrating the 60th birthday of its esteemed and revered Ex-President, Chinoko Yakubu Maikyau, SAN.
Barrister Aminu Hassan, Chairman of the Equity Bar Birnin Kebbi Branch, led the branch in extending warm felicitations to Maikyau, SAN, on this milestone birthday. In a congratulatory message, Hassan described Maikyau as a "distinguished and accomplished" lawyer, who has left an indelible mark on the legal profession.
As a former President of the NBA, Maikyau, SAN, demonstrated exceptional leadership and vision, guiding the association towards greater heights. His tenure was marked by significant reforms and innovations, which have had a lasting impact on the NBA.
Maikyau's illustrious career is a testament to his dedication and commitment to the legal profession. He obtained a bachelor's degree in law from Ahmadu Bello University, Kaduna State in 1989 and was called to the bar on 12 December 1990 . He is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, UK (FCIArb), and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (FICMC).
As a private legal practitioner, Maikyau, SAN, has built a reputation for excellence, integrity, and professionalism. His expertise and experience have been sought after by clients from all walks of life, and his contributions to the development of law and justice in Nigeria are immeasurable. He has handled several notable cases, including Re: Abdullahi (2018) 14 NWLR (Part 1639) 272, where he persuaded the Supreme Court of Nigeria to reach a novel decision.
Maikyau's service to the legal profession extends beyond his private practice. He has served in various capacities, including:
- Member, NBA Legal Profession Regulation Review Committee (LPRRC).
- Chairman, North Disciplinary Committee from 2012 to 2014.
-Chairman, Law and Individual Rights Committee of the NBA Section on Legal Practice (NBA-SLP).
- Member, Ad Hoc Welfare Committee on COVID–19 Pandemic Relief.
- Chairman, NBA Welfare Committee from 2020 to 2022.
- Council Member, NBA-SLP and Member, NBA National Executive Council (NEC)_ since 2018.
During his tenure as NBA President, Maikyau implemented significant reforms, including the modernization of the association's infrastructure and the enhancement of its financial management. He also played a crucial role in advocating for the passage of key legislation aimed at improving the justice system and protecting the rights of Nigerians.
The Equity Bar Birnin Kebbi Branch salutes Maikyau, SAN, on his remarkable achievements and wishes him many more years of good health, happiness, and continued service to the legal profession.
