The Nigerian Army has requested the deployment of medical personnel and infrastructure development in Kebbi State to enhance its operational efficiency. Major-General Ibikunle Ademola Ajose, General Officer Commanding (GOC) A Division and Commandant Sector 2 Operation Fansan-yamma, Northwest, made the request during a courtesy visit to Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, at Government House Birnin Kebbi.
Ajose emphasized the need for additional medical personnel, stating, "Like Oliver Twist, we would appreciate it if both our units in Zuru and that one in Birnin Kebbi could receive more state medical staff." He noted that currently, each unit only has one doctor, and in Zuru, a civilian medical doctor had to be employed due to the shortage of medical personnel in the Nigerian Army.
The GOC also requested the rehabilitation of the public school in the barracks and the repair of the collapsed bridge at Dankolo village to facilitate troop movement and logistics. He highlighted the importance of these infrastructure developments, saying, "We have a battalion in Dankolo area, and during the last rain, a bridge in the area collapsed, causing problems for reinforcement of troops and providing logistics."
In response, Governor Idris commended the Nigerian Army for their sacrifices and assured Ajose that his administration would provide support. Idris noted that the Lakurawa terrorists, who were initially operating in Arewa Local Government Area, had extended their attacks to Bunza, Augie, and Suru, but were flushed out by the military.
The governor requested additional troops for Kebbi State, citing its border with Niger Republic and Benin Republic, and assured Ajose that the state was ready to assist the military in their mission. Ajose also disclosed that the Chief of Defence Staff had mandated the special Operation Brigade to shift from Gudu and Tangaza to Arewa LGA to combat the Lakurawa terrorists.
