Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has presented a ₦545 billion budget proposal for 2025 to the state House of Assembly. The budget, which represents a significant increase from the previous year, aims to address the state's pressing challenges and drive sustainable development.
According to Governor Lawal, the 2025 budget is a "blueprint for solving the problems Zamfara State is facing" and a "testament to our determination to transform challenges into opportunities and deliver a prosperous, stable country for our people."
The budget allocates 11% to the Ministry of Health, totaling ₦62,124,702.98, while the education sector receives 14%, amounting to ₦79,664,861,461. Security and agriculture each account for 6% of the budget, with allocations of ₦32,288,700,000 and ₦34,716,180,000, respectively.
Governor Lawal highlighted the state's significant revenue growth of 240.44% over the last 18 months, which has improved Zamfara's ranking in the domestic revenue generation system of Nigeria from 36th to 26th.
The governor emphasized his administration's commitment to financial sustainability, improved accounting, and enhanced revenue streams. He also noted that the revenue-generating MDAs will be required to explore new opportunities to increase revenue.
The 2025 budget prioritizes spending on recurring expenses, ensures equitable distribution of resources, and lays the foundation for sustainable development. Governor Lawal expressed confidence that, with the efforts of stakeholders, the state will overcome its challenges and achieve progress.
The total budget estimate for 2025 is ₦545,014,575,000.00, representing a significant investment in the state's future.
