A devastating road crash occurred on Tuesday night along the Baimari-Geidam road in Yobe state, claiming the lives of 12 persons. The victims comprised 10 male adults, one female adult, and one female child.

According to Corps Commander Livinus Yilzoom, Sector Commander of the Yobe State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the crash occurred at approximately 10:00 pm at Km 20, Chelluri village. The accident involved a stationary Howo truck with registration number MAG831ZR, belonging to DAN Nene Construction Company, and a Sharan mini bus with registration number BAU124YF.

The mini bus, which had 12 occupants, ran into the stationary truck and caught fire, resulting in the tragic loss of lives. Preliminary investigations revealed that road obstruction by the truck was the immediate cause of the crash, while excessive speed and overload by the driver of the Sharan were the remote causes.

Corps Commander Yilzoom cautioned motorists to avoid night travels due to the dangers of poor visibility, which is exacerbated by the current hazy harmattan weather. He also extended the condolences of the Corps Marshal of FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, to the bereaved families.
