A brazen nighttime raid by 15 armed thieves on Kebbi Radio Station has left the facility reeling, marking the third time the station has been attacked. The attackers, who overpowered the security team using guns and machetes, severely injured three personnel, including a civil defense corps officer and two private watchmen, before tying them with wires.
The thieves then proceeded to loot the station, making off with valuable equipment from the offices of the General Manager, Directors, transformer room, and transmission room. The stolen items include accessories of the 33KV transformer, two generator cables, large batteries, several armoured cables, plasma television sets, computers, and critical transmission cables.
Commissioner for Information and Culture, Hon. Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, expressed shock and dismay at the severity of the attack, assuring the public that relevant security agencies would investigate the incident thoroughly to apprehend the culprits . The Commissioner also promised the adoption of enhanced security measures to prevent future occurrences.
The injured security personnel, currently receiving treatment at Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, were visited by the General Manager of the Station and the Commissioner for Information and Culture, who covered their medical expenses. The Police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Malam Yahaya Sarki, and the General Managers of Kebbi Radio and Television expressed deep shock over the unfortunate incident, lamenting that it comes at a time when the people of Kebbi State are celebrating the digitalization and rehabilitation of the station by Governor Nasir Idris.
