The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State is calling for the immediate release of the investigation report on the students' uprising at the College of Health Sciences and Technology, Jega. The report, which was due two weeks ago, is yet to be made public, sparking concerns among students, parents, and the college management.
The Hon. Musa Muhammad Tungulawa-led Committee began its investigation on October 28, 2024, with a promise to thoroughly examine the causes of the riots, circumstances leading to it, roles played by each stakeholder, and recommend measures to prevent future occurrences. However, 22 days after the commencement of the investigation, the Committee has yet to release its report.
The prolonged closure of the institution will negatively impact academic activities, emphasizing the need for prompt resumption of lectures. The Committee, chaired by Commissioner of Environment Alhaji Mohammed Musa Tungulawa, was tasked with investigating the students' riot and providing recommendations.
According to Commissioner of Information and Culture Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK, the Committee will interface with all stakeholders, including students, teachers, school management, and security personnel, to unravel the causes of the riot and prevent future occurrences. The press release was signed by Alhaji Sani Dododo, state PDP Public Relations Officer (PRO), and made available to newsmen on Monday in Birnin Kebbl.
When contacted by Series Online News correspondent, the Commissioner of Information and Culture and a member of the committee stated, "Our report is ready; we are waiting for His Excellency, the Executive Governor to return to the state, as he travelled on official assignment. Immediately he returns, the report will be presented. Why are they in a hurry?" He added that upon receiving the report, the governor will determine whether it should be made public or not.
