In a bold move to tackle absenteeism and lateness, the Kebbi State Government has issued a final warning to civil servants who fail to report to work on time. Alhaji Malami Muhammad Shekare, Head of Service, made the announcement after conducting a surprise inspection of government offices, ministries, and departments.
Alhaji Malami Shekare's inspection revealed a dismal turnout of workers, with only a handful present hours after the official 8:00 a.m. reporting time. This lackluster attendance prompted Shekare to emphasize Governor Nasir Idris' commitment to civil servants, including the payment of the new minimum wage, settlement of inherited liabilities, and construction of a modern Secretariat Complex.
The government's patience has worn thin, and Shekare stressed that laxity, lukewarm attitudes, and disregard for ethics will no longer be tolerated. "There will be repercussions for laziness, lateness, redundancy, and indolence to service delivery from any civil servant," he warned.
In addition to addressing absenteeism, Shekare also urged ministries and departments to maintain a clean environment. His inspection revealed dusty desktops, indicating a lack of attention to detail. Only five Permanent Secretaries out of 28 were present at their posts during the inspection.
This crackdown on truancy is part of Governor Nasir Idris' broader efforts to promote accountability, transparency, and efficiency in Kebbi State's civil service. With this move, the government aims to ensure that civil servants take their responsibilities seriously and provide quality service to the people.
