The Kano State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has taken disciplinary actions against eight judiciary staff, following various investigations and petitions. Baba Jibo Ibrahim, Spokesman for the Kano State Judiciary, made this known in a statement issued on Sunday.
The Judiciary Public Complaint Committee (JPCC) investigated two petitions filed against Magistrate Nasir Ado, revealing that the magistrate conducted a proceeding without record and falsified records when asked. The commission adopted the JPCC's recommendation, deeming Nasir Ado's actions as gross misconduct, and recalled him from judicial duties.
A complaint filed against Sharia Court Judge Yusuf Kawu by the Association of Fighting Criminals alleged that Kawu used his judicial position to release a convict sentenced to 12 months without option of fine. The commission found Kawu's actions unlawful and his defense untenable, recalling him from judicial functions indefinitely.
Magistrate Sanusi Usman Atana received a warning following two petitions, which found him exceeding his jurisdictional limits and circumventing fair hearing principles. The commission directed him to desist from such actions.
The JSC directed the immediate compulsory retirement of Salisu Adamu Nayola, Finance Registrar of Kiru Sharia Court, due to allegations of bribery. Investigations revealed Nayola's admission to receiving bribes from multiple litigants and his collaboration with Alkali Abdulmuminu Nuhu.
Alkali Abubakar Abdullahi of the Sharia Court, Takai, received a strong warning for presiding over an estate distribution case outside his jurisdiction. Shuaibu Bello, a court messenger, was suspended for four months without pay for corruption and conduct unbecoming of judiciary staff.
The commission also directed the immediate compulsory retirement of Shamsu Abbas, a court registrar, for assuming an adjudicative role and releasing a suspect on bail without proper assignment.
The Judicial Service Commission remains committed to ensuring judiciary personnel perform their duties within the law and with respect for judicial processes, applying sanctions against erring staff to safeguard the integrity and accountability of the judicial system and maintain public confidence.
