N2 Billion Yauri Water Scheme Rehabilitation: HYPPADEC Hands Over to Kebbi State Government

The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has officially handed over the rehabilitated Yauri Water Scheme to the Kebbi State Government, marking a significant milestone in the quest for clean water supply in the region . The project, valued at N2 billion, has restored clean water supply to Yauri and its environs after 30 years of dormancy.

At the commissioning ceremony held in Yauri, N-HYPPADEC's Managing Director, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, expressed gratitude to the Emir of Yauri for his support and acknowledged the collaborative efforts with the Kebbi Government. Yelwa emphasized that water supply is a critical component of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at improving citizens' quality of life.

The rehabilitated water scheme will provide safe and consistent drinking water to households, businesses, and institutions. HYPPADEC invested N2 billion in the comprehensive overhaul, ensuring optimal performance and sustainability. The scope of work included expanding the storage tank and distribution network to reach all residents in Yauri and neighboring communities.

Governor Nasir Idris, represented by the Speaker of the Kebbi House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, Commended HYPPADEC for its pivotal role in water supply and pledged continued prioritization of access to clean water for the benefit of the people.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. George Akume, represented by his Chief of Staff, Simeon Ngwu, hailed the project as a significant stride by President Tinubu to improve the wellbeing of power-producing communities. He noted that reliable access to water improves health, sanitation, and economic empowerment.

The Emir of Yauri, Dr. Muhammadu Zayyanu ABDULLAHI, thanked the Federal Government and HYPPADEC for revitalizing the dormant water scheme, which had denied inhabitants piped water for 30 years.

This development underscores HYPPADEC's commitment to addressing the plights of communities affected by hydroelectric dam construction and operations in Kebbi State.
