Kebbi State Government Swiftly Responds to Bridge Collapse

The Kebbi State Government has initiated emergency measures to repair a critical bridge that collapsed at Makera, near Birnin Kebbi, connecting the state to the Republic of Niger. Heavy rainfall caused the collapse, prompting the government to close the busy road to vehicular traffic to prevent accidents and protect human life and goods.

Deputy Governor Sen. Umar Abubakar Tafida, acting on Governor Nasir Idris' mandate, directed Commissioner for Works Hon. ABDULLAHI Umar Muslim to assess and recommend immediate reconstruction. Tafida also ordered Chairman of Birnin Kebbi Local Government Hon. Muhammad Abubakar Nayaya Ambursa to block access to the bridge to safeguard lives and property.

 Senator Tafida assured communities and commuters of the government's commitment to rebuilding the bridge, restoring vehicular traffic, and providing relief to affected areas. The government has authorized agencies and local governments to evacuate flooded towns and villages to safer locations, utilizing school buildings as temporary shelters.

The Chairman of the State Safety Management Committee on impending Flood, visited flood-affected areas in Argungu and Gwandu Local Governments. He promised government support to recoup losses and restore normalcy on the Argungu-Sokoto Highway, collaborating with federal agencies to assist displaced communities.
