A devastating flood has swept through Kebbi State, submerging 858,311 farmlands and displacing 329,092 households. The State Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed-BK, made an impassioned plea to the Federal Government for urgent assistance during a press conference in Birnin Kebbi on Friday.
The flood has claimed numerous lives, with reported fatalities in several local governments, including Birnin Kebbi (2), Ngaski (7), Maiyama (8), Kalgo (5), and Jega (7) .
Recognizing the state government's limitations in addressing the disaster alone, Ahmed Yukubu emphasized the need for federal support to alleviate the suffering of affected victims. A comprehensive report has been compiled and submitted to Abuja for consideration and necessary action.
The Federal Government has pledged to assist states affected by flooding nationwide, with a promised allocation of N3 billion for support . Kebbi State Governor, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, has also reassured victims of both state and federal government commitment to providing aid.
The governor's reassurance comes after his visit to affected areas, including Ngaski and Yauri Local Government Areas, where he sympathized with victims and promised rehabilitation and empowerment programs .
